Olivia Brown – My First Week at Bird
A new city, a new job and a new house all in the same week is a scary prospect. This was the adventure I embarked on at the beginning of January, after deciding to leave my home in London to start a new life in sunny Manchester.
While the weather might have been a bit of a shock to the system (it really does rain a lot here!), my first few weeks at Bird have otherwise been really enjoyable. With 18 months of property PR experience under my belt, I was excited to start a new challenge with clients in a more diverse mix of sectors.
As I was given an introduction to each of the accounts I would be working on, it quickly became clear that Bird has a very carefully selected roster of clients. Only working with businesses they really believe in means that they can produce campaigns which they are passionate about, and that are honest and truthful – sometimes a rarity in this industry!
Everyone has been really welcoming, and I’ve already been to more meetings than I can count which has been great. There really isn’t a better way to get to grips with a business and its aims than to meet face to face.
Being based in the brilliant and innovative Sharp Project, a hub of digital businesses, there is a real buzz around the building. It is fantastic knowing that you’re surrounded by some of the city’s most creative minds, and it leads to some really interesting opportunities for collaboration.
It’s definitely been a fun, interesting and varied start to the job and I can’t wait to see what the next few months have in store as I really start to settle into my new home here in Manchester.
