Founder and CEO of Bird Consultancy, Chris Bird, is set to take on a charity challenge in raising funds for Friends of Tameside Young Carers.

On the 3rd of September, Chris will be abseiling down the side of the IKEA building in Ashton to help raise £2,500 in funds to send the Young Carers of Tameside to the annual Young Carers Festival in Southampton.

Young Carers is a charity that helps people under the age of 18 who are responsible for caring for their disabled or sick relative. The charity uses their funds to enable the young carers to experience the same social and sporting activity as their peers.

Joyce Howarth, Chair of Friends of Tameside Young Carers, said, “Chris is a well-known businessman in this area so we are so pleased that he has been able to find the time to take part in this event. I know that this area means a lot to him, and his close links to the Tameside area will add something special to the day.”

Chris Bird added, “Heights are slightly out of my comfort zone, but for me that’s all the more reason to take part. These young carers are put out of their comfort zone all of the time, and they rise to the challenge so, so should I. I live in Tameside, and it is an area very close to my heart. I feel privileged to be able to take part in this challenge and give something back to these young people who give every single day.”

There will be live coverage of the event on Tameside Radio.
