30 Sep Bird Consultancy celebrates 30 years in PR
Today (30th September) Manchester-based PR agency, Bird Consultancy, is celebrating 30 years in business.
The agency was founded by Chris Bird in 1990. At the time Chris was Sales & Promotions Controller at Piccadilly Radio. He started Bird Consultancy with the objective to create an agency that delivered a personal approach to PR and provided tangible, commercial results for clients.
30 years on and Chris and his team have worked with a variety of clients from sport, entertainment, leisure, retail, travel and housing, including big names such as Manchester City, Barry Hearn, Frank Warren, JD Sports, Manchester Central (GMEX), Disney on Ice, Your Housing Group, BetFred, Sports Tours International, and England Boxing. They have also supported many charities including CAFÉ (Centre for Access to Football in Europe), We Love MCR and The Running Bee Foundation.
The anniversary has prompted well wishes from some of the region’s best-known business leaders, and sports personalities, which Bird has been sharing across its social channels today.
Fred Done, owner of BetFred, said: “You don’t get much better than to have a man as a most trusted friend and partner than Chris, through good times and especially bad he’s there with the best judgement and calming advice. But for all our business relationship it means more to me to have Chris as my friend. What an achievement to last for 30 years most don’t last 30 months. Chris my friend enjoy your anniversary.”
Former Chief executive of Manchester City Council Sir Howard Bernstein said: “I have known Chris for many years – initially because of our shared passion for Man City and increasingly because of our commitment to Manchester and the wider region. His passion for people and place are some of his defining characteristics – another is his optimism and his creativity – well done Chris for meeting the 30 year milestone – every success for the future!”
Chris has now come full circle and returned to where his media career started back in 1982 in local news and radio as Executive Chairman of the Quest Media Network, which includes Tameside Radio, Tameside Reporter, Glossop Chronicle and Oldham Reporter. Alongside the Bird Consultancy Chris has now created the ‘Hyper-Local’ media network he predicted almost 10 years ago that he one day would.
Commenting on reaching 30 years in business, CEO and Founder of Bird, Chris Bird, said; “the ’90s was a decade of change for me, launching Bird brought bigger projects, bigger thinking and some personal challenges. Along with my team, we have achieved great things at Bird, but along the way mistakes were made, and lessons were learned. To celebrate how far we have come, along with my team I am sharing my greatest lessons, and how they all link to what we do at Bird, for each other and our clients.”
“I am very proud to still be going strong after 30 years, I couldn’t have got here without the support of my family, my team and a fantastic network of great business people and free thinkers, which are the lifeblood of communications! They have helped shape my thinking and my business, and I thank all of them for their friendship and support.”
Chris will be sharing his top 30 lessons from the past 30 years on Bird Consultancy’s website and social channels, and on its new Podcast, ‘Let’s Talk Thirty’, over the coming days, weeks and months.
