Bird Blog: From Post to Paralympics - 17th August 2012

Karen and Claire were eyeing up some Premiership rugby aces this week when they attended the Sale Sharks pre-season press launch! The job’s not half bad sometimes! The season starts in a few weeks and the press launch saw a great turnout of media.

Hats off to Pam Martin, the General Manager at Salford City Stadium, who had to smile constantly for two hours whilst she had her profile photos taken this week! She was a natural though, and the photographer said she was striking her best Karren Brady pose! Speaking of posing, hands up if you’ve been practising your best Mobot poses this week? Team Bird’s snapshot was pretty comical.

As everyone gears up for the next chapter in the London 2012 Games, one of our clients is being kept busy - by playing host to more than 290 members of the Brazilian Paralympic squad! Macdonald Manchester Hotel & Spa has been taken over by the team, including 170 athletes who are training across sporting venues in the city before they head to London at the end of the month. Brazil is hosting the next Olympic Games too which makes it quite exciting. The Olympics gripped the nation, wonder if the Para’s are going to do the same?

Whilst many of us were glued to our TV’s (not to mention radio’s/phones/laptops…) to watch the last days of the Olympic Games last weekend, more than 300 people in Greater Manchester were pounding the streets in this year’s 10k Run the Flash and Women’s Only 5k, organised by our client Sports Tours International. It was Hayley Blackburn who was hailed the hero of the day when she raised more than £1000. Hayley ran minus her wig to raise awareness for BeBold Alopecia Awareness.

That’s a round-up of what we’ve been up to anyway, have a good weekend whatever you’ve got planned. It’s the start of the footy season tomorrow, and what we want to know is will anything top the climax of last season? The tension between the Blue’s and Red’s in the office is rising already!
